Golden Jubilee Central Mopin celebration begins with much enthusiasm and fanfare at Aalo

Aalo, April 6: Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Kalikho Pul while attending the Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration as the chief guest at Mopin ground, Aalo congratulated the people of Galo community in their 50th celebration of the Central Mopin and extended his warm greetings to the people of West Siang at Aalo.

In his inaugural speech, Chief Minister said that festival gives us a reflection of our cultures. There are similarities in all the festivals of Arunachal Tribes which has a religious and cultural significance tied to our agricultural cycle and it all have their origins as a ritual for a better harvest, he said.

He saluted the pioneers of the Central Mopin Celebration 50th years back which has become a big event now saying it provides a platform for the younger generations to showcase their rich cultural heritage besides that it also gives an opportunity for cultural  exchange among different communities.

However, he urged to maintain the originality of rituals, ethos and values associated with the festival though we move along with the wind of change in this era of modernization.

While expressing concern over the diminishing traditional dialect/language among the younger generations, Chief Minister emphasized on preservation of traditional dialect and advocated for developing a common script so that it can be introduced in the schools. 

He also stressed on the need to promote our traditional dress and attires to the outside world and to do so, he requested the sportspersons of the state to dress in traditional attires while receiving any national or international awards/medals.

He further said “though we have traversed 50 long years in celebration of our festivals, it faints me a lot to see that despite gain in our knowledge and wisdom, there is growing tendency of inter community conflict and fight for dominancy of one tribe or clan or religion over another” which he said, “does not omen good for the development of the state”. He appealed the community based organizations of the state to work towards peaceful co-existence of all tribes, religion, clan, etc and to discourage the elements that create disparity among the communities.

He said, “Golden Jubilee is time for us to pause for a moment, retrospect and rethink”. He said “our state was once known as the Island of Peace” and appealed the people to exemplify this pluralism and show the world our ability to co-exist in spite of great diversity.

He called upon the people to take pledge on this occasion to rededicate ourselves for the good works, to renounce bad habits, to forgive one another, to forget the differences and to concertedly work for the unity and prosperity of the state.

While lauding the officers and businessman for their tremendous contributions in terms of money and Mithun in the Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration, Chief Minister urged upon the Festival Celebration Committee and the officers and businessmen to contribute back some part for the maintenance of Govt higher secondary school and hostel buildings at Aalo which are in pathetic conditions now.

Doi Ado, Former Minister and the president of Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration Committee 2016, Aalo in his welcome speech termed the occasion as historic. He said that the presence of the Chief Minister on the occasion has emboldened and boost up their morals and spirit.

He informed that the Green colour dress worn by the people of Galo community in the preparation day signifies Prosperity and the white colour dress usually worn during Mopin Day signifies Peace. Hence, the festival itself signifies the peace and prosperity for all the mankind.

On the occasion, Nyami Lollen Tayang, wife of former minister Late Sobeng Tayang was felicitated with a momento by the guest of honour, Kumar Waii, Minister of RWD, Agriculture and Labour & Employment.

Felicitation was conferred by the Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration Committee 2016 in recognition for her participation in the first Central Mopin Celebration in the year 1966 at Aalo.

Earlier, the Chief Minister accompanied by D Pul, his better half and the accompanying dignitaries offered prayers to God and Goddesses at Donyi Polo Dere namely, Roku Rote (God of Strength), Hitum Jore (Creator), Donyi Mummi (first son and daughter of Abo tani), Dinyi Loma (God of prosperity) and Kaji Rojik (God of Wisdom) as per the traditional beliefs of the Galos.

The chief minister also unveiled the Golden Jubilee Mopin Liin (Pillar) 1966-2016 and inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration 2016. The Golden Jubilee Mopin Liin was sponsored by Er Gaken Ete in memory of his father Late Binga Ete.

On the occasion were present, D. Pul, wife of chief minister, Tumke Bagra, Deputy Speaker as Special guest, Jarkar Gamlin, MLA Aalo East as special guest, DC, SP, HoDs and Public Leaders of Aalo among people from all walks of life.
